Ref: Application for 2018 M&A TMT Trainee
I am writing in response to your advertisement for M&A TMT Trainees in your Investment Banking Division.
In extension of my CV, I am a resilient, motivated and analytical recent graduate from the University of Nottingham. My Computer Science degree developed my analytical and problem-solving skills, as I was required to analyse existing lines of code to find inefficiencies and then find solutions to rectify them. I further honed my analytical skills during my time at the Bank of England where I interned as a Data Analyst. During my time at the Bank of England, I recruited firms with a combined revenue of £1.2 billion that fed data to the BoE on how financial uncertainty caused by things such as Brexit was affecting business, this was directly referenced by the Monetary Policy Committee in their decision to raise interest rates by 25 basis points in November 2017.
I used my analytical skills while at HSBC to complete client profiles and look for opportunities for the bank to add an ancillary business on the back of recent deals to directly increase revenue. I hope to grow this skill further through an internship at Soc Gen.
At University, I was elected Chair of Societies Executive Committee, chairing a committee that represented over 275 societies. The role enhanced my communication and public speaking skills as I regularly presented to an audience of 275 about issues society presidents were having with the Students Union. I feel these skills will help me with any presentations I may have during my internship at Soc Gen.
I consider myself to be a creative and innovative individual, demonstrated through my experience in the Financial Services industry where whilst working at RBS I changed the method of onboarding clients. The overall result improved the efficiency of onboarding clients, saving valuable time for colleagues. Additionally, during an internship at HSBC, I successfully pitched to change the way the bank categorised clients in the Consumer Goods and Retail sector. I completed competitor analysis on Investment banks of a similar geographical scope and leading investment banks within the sector to find how they categorised clients. Upon doing this I then mapped clients to each sub-sector, resulting in an easier way to measure sub-sector performance. I hope to find creative ways to find ways to improve the way Soc Gen operate during my internship at the bank.
I have chosen to apply to Soc Gen for a multitude of reasons; the most important being speaking to Imaan, a fellow HSBC intern who interned in the TMT team at Soc Gen as a TMT Trainee who shared his positive experience and the financial modelling skills he gained. I was also pleased in learning about Soc Gens engagement with combatting climate change through joining the Climate Bonds Partner programme. At HSBC I had to pick a client and produce a full client plan deciding what business to target as part of my internship, I pitched a green bond as part of my presentation. I understand the importance of giving clients the opportunity to combat climate change by helping finance green solutions through sustainable financing and would be proud to work at a firm that tries to make the world a better place.
I look forward to hearing from you soon and thank you for your consideration.
