Dear Mr./Mrs HR Manager at Foster & Partners,

I am writing this to express my keen interest in applying for your Architectural Assistant position. By way of introduction, I am currently an MPhil candidate at the University of Cambridge, and have previously received a BArch degree in Architecture from the University of Nottingham.

After my completion of RIBA Part 1 study, I have worked at Allies and Morrison for 3 months and PRP Architects for 14 months, respectively. These previous experiences provided me not only with grounding in design theory and fluency in a variety of software but also a particularly strong work ethic and practical skills. During this period of time, I furthered my working knowledge of 3D rendering and physical model making, using specifically BIM software. With this, I was invited to hold a Revit training course at 5plusDesign’s Shanghai office. This tutorial programme together with several public consultations and talks in which I was involved while working on Greenwich Peninsula Masterplan – a revision of former Farrell’s scheme consented in 2004, have greatly improved my organising and presentation skill.

Also, proficiency in four foreign languages, including Mandarin and Cantonese, coupled with experience as a visiting researcher at Tsinghua University, Beijing collaborating with a team of architects and engineers from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, US on a regeneration project in North China last summer, enhance my interest in working within an international context. A position at Foster + Partners, a practice with such many facets and experience, would prove to be an extremely challenging opportunity. I believe my background of intensive work and my excitement about join the dynamic environment at Foster + Partners, would enable me to be an effective part of your team.
